Christopher R. McKinney, DVM
Veterinarian in Charge
Dr. Christopher R. McKinney is the Veterinarian in Charge East River Veterinary Hospital. He previously split his time between Cats & Critters Veterinary Hospital and East River Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. McKinney graduated cum laude from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 2004. He attended the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine from 2006 to 2010, where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. After two years in practice Dr. McKinney attended Tufts University, where he received his Master of Science in Conservation Medicine in 2013.
In addition to his experience as a veterinarian, he started working in the veterinary field in 2004 as a veterinary assistant. Dr. McKinney has volunteered at the Buffalo Zoo, Tufts University Wildlife Clinic and completed an internship at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as a wildlife intern in 2013. He seeks to enhance human-animal relationships and provide compassionate care for all patients. His professional interests include exotic animals, wildlife and internal medicine. He is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. McKinney shares his home with his wife, Elizabeth, and four cats; Max, Jawa, Viggo and Vlad. In his spare time, he likes to read, hike and play computer games.
Elizabeth Sullivan, BVSc
Originally from Syndey, Australia, Elizabeth Sullivan is an associate veterinarian at East River Veterinary Hospital. She graduated with a bachelor of veterinary medicine from the University of Sydney in 2016 and attended the University of Technology (also in Sydney) with a degree in marine biology in 2012. Her professional interests include exotic and wildlife medicine, animal behavior and dermatology.
She recently moved to New York State to be with her husband that she met through a classmate in veterinary school. Dr. Sullivan left two cats in the care of her family in Australia and has since adopted her husband's two cats, Thor and Tigger. In her free time, she enjoys arts and crafts, crocheting and traveling.
Allison Adams, LVT
Since 2007, Allison has worked at East River Veterinary Hospital as an LVT, where she continued to work after the Hospital joined Monroe Veterinary Associates.
Allison grew up in Rochester and received her bachelor's degree in biology from Houghton College before getting her vet tech degree from Bel-Rea Institute of Technology in Denver.
However, her history of working with animals goes back farther than that; during high school, she worked for a kennel at another animal hospital. Then, after receiving her vet tech degree, she landed her first LVT job at East River.
"I've always loved animals. I enjoy working with owners and their pets and providing the best care possible for them. I also enjoy client education so that owners can provide the best lives for their pets."
She has one pet, Olive, a black and tan short-haired Dachshund. When she's not working, she loves to hike, camp, spend time outdoors, read, watch movies and take weekend trips to visit friends.
Allison married her husband, Rick, in November 2011. Rick brings his ball python, Mr. Wiggles, to their new family!
Llisa Spencer, LVT
Born in Canandaigua, but grew up in Palmyra, Llisa has been in the animal related field for 20 years. She has a Veterinary Technology Degree from St. Petersburg College and is licensed in New York State. She also has her Bachelors in Animal Science from Cornell University, where she graduated with honors from the LVT program.
Llisa has two dogs named Stormy and Gizmo, four cats and a Parrotlet. In her free time she enjoys being with her family and friends, reading, listening to music and being outside.
Christina Clark, LVT
Christina was born in Brockport and grew up in Kendall, NY. She has been working for East River since May of 2007. Christina has been working in the animal related field since 1995. She is a licensed LVT and has a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science.
Christina's favorite part about working at East River is the variety of animals that come in on a daily basis. Christina is passionate about animals and it reflects in her personal life. She has four dogs, eight cats, three horses, Alpine goats, twenty one rabbits, multiple chickens and ducks, a snake and two tortoises. In her spare time, Christina likes to read, horseback ride and show rabbits. She has two children (Cora-14 and Michael-13) with her husband, Jason.
Jonathan Cordero Saavedra
Animal Care Assistant II
Jonathan was born in Puerto Rico, and grew up in Hatillo. He has been working in the animal related field for five years. Jonathan has his Associate Veterinary Technician degree from Puerto Rico. He loves working with animals because of all the unique exotic animals he gets to interact with.
In his free time, Jonathan likes to watch science and animal documentaries, play video games and watch different television series. A fun fact about Jonathan, he is the president and founder of Real Animal Friends, a protection organization for abandoned animals in Puerto Rico.
Animal Care Assistant II, Shift Supervisor
Katie began working with horses at the age of 13 and continued to work with them as well as various farm animals over the years until she started her own farm in the Fall of 2015. Katie began working at MVA in May of 2008 as an ACA II.

In addition to the canine and feline patients, She loves seeing the exotic patients. Katie loves getting to know the clients and developing lasting relationships with them and their pets.
Katie has a small farm in Dansville, NY where she raises Giant Chinchilla rabbits, Kunekune pigs; Greta and Grunt, a senior Pot Bellied pig; Mr. Porkers, sheep (Maeve, Fiona, Janie, Felicia and Jimmy Ramalamb Woolsen), ducks; (Rosie and Nigel) and an African Goose (Christian AKA Ricardo). She has three dogs; Ruby a pug, Abby a Rottweiler, Emelia (Mimi) an English Bulldog, and three cats; Miles, Marm, and Jilly.
Animal Care Assistant II
Suzanne was born in Rochester, NY and grew up on the west side in Gates. She has been working in the animal related field for 27 years. Her favortie part of working in an animal hospital is seeing all of the exotics that come in. She also enjoys building lasting and meaningful relationships with clients and patients.
Suzanne has six cats (Tye, Molly, Grace, Willow, Moe and Geo) and two German Sheppard (Jethro and Cooper). In her free time she loves to read and spend time with her family. She also enjoys outdoor activities such as swimming, walking and hiking. Suzanne and her husband, Kevin, are proud parents of three daughters, Rebecca and set of twins (Caitlyn and Mackenzie).
Animal Care Assistant
Rebekah was born right here in Rochester, New York and grew up in Greece. She has a Bachelors degree in education. Her favorite part about working in the animal-related field is all of the exotic animals that come into East River. She also enjoys observing procedures and surgeries, and assisting the doctors and technicians.
Rebekah has one dog named Emmy (Mountain Cur Hound Mix) who she spends a majority of her free time with. They love to hike, train and cuddle together. Emmy is currently in obedience training, and Rebekah hopes to get her into agility training soon.
